Pardi Gras

Zachary recently got a new entertainment addition to the city called Pardi Gras. It is a little place with some of these inflatables for the kids to play on. I took the kids one afternoon and they had a blast!

Brooks refused to get on any of the inflatables...who would have ever though??!! Cautious Cade just climbed right on all of them and Brooks just wanted to stand by and observe!!

Dani and Cade had a great time though!! Dani kept trying to race herself on the obstacle course inflatable...her best time was 8.2 seconds....

We did get Brooks to sit on one of them for about 5.4 seconds and then he was DONE!!

Fun afternoon with the kids!!

Until next time....

First Broken Bone

Remember the Skip It?? Well they have changed the way they were made when I was a kid....now they have a rubber ball on the end.

Well one afternoon Dani was playing with it in the driveway and it bounced on the ground and popped up and hit her on the top of the foot. She immediately started crying hysterically!!

So I told her to go sit on the couch and we put some ice on it. She maintained her crying for about 30 minutes. At first we thought it was just bruised and probably just hurt worse b/c the previous day Brooks had run over her foot with a little car.....

We told her just to be tough and walk on it some because it would help stretch it out and make it feel better. She even decided she wanted to go to church that night and so she did and just hobbled around on her foot all night.

Then the next morning she woke up and it looked like this.....

Josh said it was probably best to get it X-rayed. So on our way to school that morning we stopped by the Lane After Hours clinic to get a quick X-ray.

And we waited for the results....

Which came back that she had in fact BROKEN her foot on a SKIP IT!!!!!

They put a temporary splint on her foot until we could get an appointment with the orthopaedic Dr. later that day.

She really loved her hott pink temporary cast!!! No REALLY she was actually way too excited about it. I wasn't sure if it was more that she was right that it was broken even though we told her to get over her pain and be tough the day before or if she was oddly excited about her first broken bone...but either way, she was more excited than in pain!!

Then it was time for the Orthopaedic appointment....

They confirmed that her right foot was broken at the 5th metatarsal base bone. Dr. Whatley said that is was actually the "best" bone to break if she had to break one because it heals quickly and is generally not very painful.

Then she got the bad news...they had to take her "cute" hott pink cast off and replaced it with what is called a " hard soled shoe boot"!!! This was necessary because the particular bone that she broke needs to have movement to heal correctly.

See this face below....it is complete disappointment and embarrassment!!! Oh how quickly the excitement of her first broken bone went from awesome to HORRIBLE!!! In her words "this is going to ruin my reputation"!!!

She was terribly upset for a couple of hours after we got home. Her hope was to get another pink cast that all of her friends could decorate and sign and when she wound up with this "shoe boot" her whole idea of having a broken bone being "fun" was destroyed!! She cried for a while about many different issues from how she was never going to come out of her room to this shoe made her feel ugly and people were going to be so mean to her and not want to be her friend!!

So we had a "come to Jesus" talk for a while about how there are much bigger things in the world to be upset about and how lucky she was that she didn't have to have surgery and she could actually take a shower and get her foot wet and itch her leg whenever she wanted. We also had to discuss that what people think DOESN'T matter and the ONLY person whose opinion matters in this life is God's. It was a great talk and eventually a bonding moment for us....

She eventually came around!! Whew!! We decided we were going to have to bedazzle the boot shoe though because it just wasn't stylish enough...SO....

This was our finished product.....

And once we got done somehow the "shoe boot" turned into the coolest "shoe boot" there ever was and I almost think she was excited to show it off at school!!

She will have to wear the boot for about a month and hopefully she can go back to normal activity!!

Hopefully there is not a "next time" with this post.....

Funny Story Friday

Poop Explosion

I came home from my high school girls Bible study one night to this.......

Yep...that is poop!! I got a phone call in the middle of my Bible study to "COME HOME NOW!!!" so I rushed home and came home to the "crime" scene above.

Brooks was having difficulty over the previous couple of days doing #2 so I had given him some prunes a couple of hours prior to this scene....well they apparently worked!!! The best part to me is how Josh decided to clean him up. I mean this is a typical daddy scene right?? I do love that he protected the carpet with a full size trash bag!! As a mom we would have just put him in the tub and stripped him down and started the water, but I guess he felt the need to dramatize the scene a little....or maybe this was just his first reaction?? Either way, I love my husband and his response to changing dirty diapers, it never gets old and it makes me laugh every time!!

When I did finally get home he had Brooks in the tub, Dani was still laughing hysterically, and Cade was repeatedly saying "EWWW that's disgusting" and "That's just nasty" as he was holding his nose!!!! After I composed myself from laughing at them, I had the pleasure of cleaning up this mess....but after all, I guess I did give him the prunes!!!

Until next time....

Update on the Hebert Household

We have been battling the sickness here in Zachary. For the most part the boys have had a MUCH improved winter from last year. Mommy actually got sick last weekend with bronchitis so Cade took full advantage of that and requested pizza and yogurt for breakfast....

We are all still recovering, Dani had a day home last week with headache and aches, Cade is now running fever and Brooks is all snotty. Somehow Daddy always avoids the sickness...hmm??!!

In other news.....

We have some major techies on our hands!! As I have said before, they love playing with the Ipad, Iphone, or Itouch. Cade loves to watch movies on my Itouch and they love to play the theme song from Toy Story that I downloaded onto my phone and Brooks loves to play the truck and animal games. Dani sticks to her computer or phone with her games.

Being Silly....

And when they don't get their way, sometimes they pout...

This was at dinner when Brooks wanted to "get down" and Daddy said NO, not until everyone was done eating! This is the reaction we got......No tears, just frowning!

Play doh is our  their new favorite activity.....mommy doesn't enjoy it so much b/c it is messy!!!! But it makes the clean up much easier knowing how much fun they had playing with it.

Brooks has a new obsession with motorcycles!! Anytime he sees one on the street, he SCREAMS so loud that he sees a motorcycle. One of the daycare teachers, Ms. Gloria, gave him some toy motorcycles and I think it is safe to say he is a little attached!! The best thing is the way he says motorcycle...it sounds more like "sicocola"???

Both Brooks and Cade love to play with Woody and Buzz...it usually turns out that Brooks gets Woody and Cade gets Buzz.

Dani has been working hard on her homework EVERY night!!!! Josh and I are helping her a lot as well...but her grades are improving and she seems to be enjoying school so far!

Since Dani works on homework a lot in the afternoons, the boys and I try to stay out of her way. The boys have had so much fun playing in their room lately....

And they have been enjoying plenty of outside play time....

This is one of the best energy dispensers EVER!!! Although it usually ends with either one of them on the ground or one of them pinned....like pictured below!! Hey, who says little brothers are tough??!!

Riding on the four wheeler or the "Genie" (aka Jeep) around the cul de sac is a daily activity for us now.....

We are starting to get our routine down with Dani being here. She said her favorite part of being here so far is getting to spend so much time together....it makes me so happy to hear her say that!!!

She is always a huge help and the boys LOVE having her here all the time. Stay tuned for an update just on how Dani is adjusting to life in Zachary!

Until next time.....
